Samsung WA50F First Impressions ReviewWasher
The Samsung WA50F is the next step in top loader design.
Design & Usability
Down the Rabbit Hole
The Samsung WA50F has a 5.0 cubic feet drum. You could stuff thirty-six towels into this machine, more than enough to last you a day at the Turkish bath. The controls are well designed, benefiting from Samsung's extensive experience in the washing machine arena. Every option lights up when selected so there's no confusion. The wash goes in, the wash goes out there's no miscommunication.
Clad with chrome accents, this washer looks good. However, it might not be practical for everyone. The WA50F will suffer from many of the ails of other top loaders. Due to its size, you'll have to bend over to get your laundry out of the drum. Top loaders tend to have problems getting clothing clean, but Samsung has a few solutions.
Features & Performance
Samsung breathes new life into an old technology
We've tested a lot top loaders. One problem they have trouble over coming is evenly washing laundry. Most top loaders don't have a detergent dispenser, you just pour it over your laundry. This causes the upper layers to get a better clean than the bottom. Aquajet is Samsung's answer. The technology uses water jets to help circulate the water vertically. This will help evenly coat all the laundry with detergent and keep clothing from clinging to the sides the machine.
Samsung is also deploying Smart Care for those times when your washer breaks down. With this feature, the washer communicates with smart phones. Being able to diagnosis your machine before you make that dreaded call to customer support, saving everyone's time.
They might be giants
The Samsung WA50F is part of a line of ever bigger washing machines. It speaks to American sensibilities. For most families, laundry is a once a week endeavor. It's on that day that you were your sweatpants and do one load after the other. With a washer the size of the WA50F, all the dirty from your laundry can be removed in one fell swoop.
We will wait with bated breath until this washing machine gets into our labs to see if the Aquajet technology is up to snuff.
