Large capacity
Claimed quick washes
New rinse technology
Flimsy door
Introduction
LG brought a whole complement of household appliances to this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, including the LG WM8000 washer. LG claims it’s one of the fastest, largest-capacity clothes washers in its class, both claims we’d love to test as soon as we can get it into our lab. No word on how much it costs, but with such an impressive resume, we imagine that it won’t come cheap.

With its nifty lint trap bucket, spotless steel drum, and an unfamiliar ease of access resulting from the top-loading design, one would expect it to deliver in a really spectacular way. The truth is, behind all the wonder of finding something new, this machine is just a regular dryer. It does a decent job at drying clothes, without delivering anything mind blowing. In fact, this machine is a little worse than some more traditional appliances – controls are limited and there’s no separate Timed Dry cycle. This certainly isn’t a bad dryer, but don’t let yourself be swayed by novelty – retailers offer this for prices ranging from $795 to over $1000, and there are other standard machines available for those prices that are just as good, if not better.
